A tentative BP settlement covering suits filed by Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas as well as the federal government has been reached.
The settlement between BP, the Gulf Coast states and the federal government stipulates that the British oil company will pay $18.7 billion over 18 years to compensate for damages from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
“This is a landmark settlement. It is designed to compensate the state for all the damages, both environmental and economic.”
– Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama –
