The manufacturers of automobiles and their parts that are sold in the United States are required by law to ensure the safety of the products they release; however, sometimes defective products find their way onto the market and often result in people being seriously injured.
Take the case of airbags that were manufactured by Tokyo-based, Takata Corp., and were sold in roughly 7.8 million American automobiles. Consumer alerts were issued to have vehicles containing the potentially faulty bags inspected and repaired after reports began to surface of units inflating and sending metal shrapnel flying in the direction of the vehicle’s occupants. Further investigation has uncovered humidity may play a role in causing the products to fail. This has led to several recalls and lawsuits being filed.
So far, two lawsuits have been filed in connection to injuries the airbags caused during Florida car accidents. According to an article from Reuters, a 26-year-old man was seriously injured in Eustis, Florida, when he was struck in the head with shrapnel from an airbag. Then, a 28-year-old man was injured in a similar manner when he was involved in a Santa Rosa County accident. Both men are seeking compensation for damages.
